Three militants were killed in an encounter that broke out on Friday between security forces and militants in the forests of Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

A police official said security forces launched a search operation in the forest of Kupwara following information about the presence of militants there.

Three militants were killed in the encounter, the Director General of Police said.

A youth has also been killed in the clashes near the encounter site. With agencies
