5 writers win state-level awards

Adviser to the Chief Minister, Prof Amitabh Mattoo, presented the ‘State-Level Academy Awards for Translation and Best Play Script’ to five leading writers of the state at the KL Saigal Hall here today.

The award ceremony was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages.

The translation award carried a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation and a shawl while the best play script competition award carried Rs 10,000, a certificate, and a shawl each, in the languages recognised by the academy.

Mattoo said cultural renaissance should be promoted by empowering the academy and providing an appropriate platform to artistes, poets, writers and intellectuals to display the rich heritage and culture of the state. He stressed adopting modern techniques to preserve local languages and dialects for posterity.

The translation award in Kashmiri was presented to Prof Mohammad Zaman Azurda while four playwrights were awarded for the best play script. In Kashmiri, Dildar Ashraf Shah was awarded for his script ‘Tsange Gayeh Tseteh’ while in Dogri, Gian Singh got an award for ‘Sah Basah’. SS Anand Lehar was awarded for his Urdu play ‘Sarhad Se Wapsi’, Rajneesh Gupta got an award for Hindi play ‘Jashn-e-Zindagi’.
