Srinagar, December 5
SKIMS, Soura, a premier health institution of Kashmir, has come under sharp criticism from former chief minister and NC president Farooq Abdullah for lagging behind in medical research.
“You (doctors) are here not only to treat patients but also to do research, which is very important. I hope you will succeed and become one of the great institutions of the country,” said Farooq during the 36th annual day of the institute at SKICC here.
He said SKIMS should take the lead in research and come up with a cure for many diseases. “The institute should find a cure for diseases like diabetes and cancer. It will earn laurels,” he said.
Adviser K Vijay Kumar, who was also present at the event, said, “I have been associated with SKIMS since 1997. I used to come here to visit patients who were victims of the situation.”
“You took equal care of all and that’s where the humanity in doctors comes in. You are in a noble profession and I am extremely delighted that I am closely working with the medical fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Kumar.
For 2018-2019, the capital allocation for SKIMS is around Rs 26 crore and for SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, it is around Rs 8 crore.
The foundation stone of SKIMS was laid in 1978 and it was officially commissioned on December 5, 1982.
