The regional office of Canara Bank distributed scholarship worth Rs 22,500 among Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) girls.
The scholarship was provided to the meritorious SC/ST girl students of Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Channi Himmat, and Government Middle School, Sunerihi, under the corporate social responsibility initiative of the bank. The scheme is introduced by the bank to encourage education among girl children belonging to the SC/ST communities by extending financial support.
The programme was presided over by Minister of State Daljit Singh Chib. Speaking on the occasion, Mamta Singh, a social activist and wife of Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh, deliberated on the importance of providing education to girl child and appreciated the role of the bank for encouraging them.
Sandeep Gupta, senior manager of the bank, highlighted the role of the bank in various social activities, especially for the girl children to encourage them for higher education by the way of scholarships as well by providing hassle-free education loan to them.
