Jammu, November 19
Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam on Monday asked the officers of the state administration to meet the original target of constructing over 60,000 individual household toilets (IHHTs) under the flagship Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the sixth state-level apex committee meeting of the mission, it was stated that over 34,000 IHHTs and 800 community toilets (CTs) had been constructed under the programme till date. Nearly, 3000 IHHTs and 1,350 CTs were under construction.
The committee reviewed the implementation of the programme and the component-wise progress achieved by the implementing agencies.
The Chief Secretary issued explicit directions to the implementing agencies to complete the original mission target of constructing 60,000 IHHTs, which was based on the demand received earlier across 79 urban local bodies of the state.
“You have completed nearly 37,000 IHHTs. Now, focus on the remaining 23,000 and allocate these rationally across the urban local bodies,” the Chief Secretary directed the implementing agencies.
He also called for involving the newly elected urban local bodies to ensure effective ward-wise implementation and monitoring of the programme.
It also reviewed the status of the solid waste management (SWM) component of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
After detailed deliberations on the establishment of the integrated SWM facilities, the committee asked the authorities to come up with a viable model for the construction of these facilities and place the same before it at the next meeting on December 5.
