Cut-throat competition was witnessed in the first cut-off list released by all major city colleges affiliated to Cluster University, Jammu, for various undergraduate courses (UG) here on Wednesday.
Four of the five colleges affiliated to the university, including Government College for Women (GCW), Gandhi Nagar; Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College; MAM College; and Government SPMR College of Commerce; declared the first merit-based cut-off list. About 6,100 seats in different streams are to be filled in these colleges.
“The merit has remained quite high this time and it was beyond our expectations. This is the first cut-off list and students who don’t fall in first merit list will have wait for the second or third lists,” Prof Poonam Dhawan, Dean, Academic Affairs, said.
At GCW, Gandhi Nagar, the science stream remained most sought-after for the students, as the combination of geography (with science stream) witnessed the maximum cut-off of 88.80 per cent. In the medical stream, the cut-off was 80.2 per cent and it was 75 per cent in the non-medical stream. The bio-technology cut-off remained on the higher side, with the list ending on 85.2 per cent. The cut-off for geography (with arts) was 85 per cent.
In the arts stream, the cut-off was 64.4 per cent, while in the commerce stream it was 79.2 per cent. Similarly, the merit in psychology, statistics and computer applications remained high with a cut-off of 72.2 per cent, 75.2 per cent and 74.6 per cent, respectively.
In GGM Science College, geography was the most sought-after subject, as its cut-off was 86.8 per cent, followed by biotechnology with 85 per cent. Geology and computer applications also witnessed a high merit with 81.2 per cent and 80.8 per cent cut-off, respectively. In the medical and non-medical stream, the cut-off was 76.2 per cent and 73.8 per cent, respectively.
The SPMR College of Commerce also witnessed a high merit in the first cut-off list. In B.Com, the cut-off was 69.8 per cent, while it was 81.6 per cent in BBA and 70.4 per cent in BCA.
