“After my son was born, I had to quit my job. Since I had a great craving for vastu shastra, I did my masters in the subject and later went on to do a PhD from Zoroastrian College, Mumbai,” said Arushi while talking to The Tribune from Bengaluru.
‘Vaastublessings’, her consultant agency which she runs online, has a good clientele from Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai.
She said she visits her clients on demand and proposes models for house settings that include placements of ornaments, crystals and idols in various corners, which disseminate positive energy.
“These days people are more concerned with the site or foundation of a house, ground, building or dwelling place and prefer to design it in a particular way that suits according to the vastu,” she said.
Vastu shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture which literally translates to the science of architecture. It incorporates traditional Hindu beliefs and the designs are intended to integrate architecture with nature, the relative functions of various parts of the structure and ancient beliefs utilising geometric patterns, symmetry and directional alignments, she said.
“To achieve harmony with nature, in any human activity, be it construction of a house, office or a temple, vastu plays an important role. A deep study in the shastra reveals how every element of universe is directly or indirectly connected to all living beings. In vastu shastra, we try to arrange forces in accordance to the well-being and prosperity of human viz-a-viz his surroundings,” Arushi added.
