Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by educational institutes with great fervour and enthusiasm in Jammu on Tuesday.
On the 149th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a 10-day Swachh Bharat Mission concluded at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra. The event was organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS).
A number of cleanliness and plantation drives were organised on campus with message ‘Go green, be healthy’. A sketching competition on theme ‘The legacy of Mahatma’ and an oratorical competition titled ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ were held, in which volunteers and students from the faculties of engineering, sciences, humanities, architecture and management participated.
Dr Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, congratulated the NSS team and appreciated their efforts.
The birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated by GGM Science College by organising a ‘prabhat pheri’. It commenced early in the morning on the college premises.
Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu, organised a cleanliness drive on the occasion. Dr Taran Singh, medical superintendent, said, “We have to work hard to keep our nation clean to fulfil the ‘Clean India’ dream.” Celebrations were held at Dewan Devi Playway and Higher Secondary School, Rajpura, also.
A symposium on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ was conducted on the occasion. Saloni Anand, principal of the school, while addressing the students, advised them to follow the path of great leaders.
Gandhi Memorial College of Education at Raipur, Bantalab, celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great enthusiasm. The programme started with the lighting of lamp by Prof Meenu Khazanchi, principal, along with the staff of the college. On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, the Bhartiya Kala Sangam organised a function at Raipur, Satwari, in which people from all walks of life participated and paid floral tributes to the Father of the Nation. — TNS
