India’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen AK Bhatt on Saturday told his Pakistan counterpart Maj Gen Sahir Shamsahd Mirza that there appeared to be a “disconnect” between the Pakistan army headquarters and its troops stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) facing India.

The Indian DGMO asked his counterpart to “resolve this existent credibility gap” to ensure that peace is maintained along the LoC.

The two DGMOs spoke over the telephone hotline around 5 pm Indian time following a request by the Pakistan DGMO.

The routine weekly talk happens mid-week when the two men discuss all irksome issues.

There is a “disconnect between the intent at the Pakistan GHQ (name of the army headquarters at Rawalpindi), which reiterates its desire for peace, and the actions of Pakistani troops along the LoC, who resort to heavy firing without provocation,” Gen Bhatt told his counterpart.

Gen Bhatt told his counterpart that the Indian Army always maintains impeccable standards of professionalism and does not target civilians in any manner, the Indian Army said.

The Pakistani side has been alleging that its civilians are being hit. But India maintains that its troops are only retaliating to fire from across the LoC.

On October 30, the Indian DGMO had told the Pakistan DGMO that the Pakistan army had employed civilians at forward posts and these civilians have repeatedly been used for gaining information about Indian locations and providing guides to terrorists while crossing the LoC.
