Fire breaks out at timber factory in Jammu

A major fire broke out in a timber factory in the Toph Sherkhaniyan area on Tuesday. No human injury has been reported so far, but timber worth crores was destroyed.

The fire broke out in the factory located on the Jammu-Akhnoor road. A large number of fire-fighters along with 17 fire tenders battled for several hours to control the flames. The rescue operation was on till the last report came.

Divisional Fire Officer, Fire and Emergency Services, Jammu, said, “We sent two fire tenders to the spot. After observing its intensity, we arranged 15 more fire tenders to control the flames from spreading to the adjoining areas.”

“We called fire tenders from Samba, Kathua, Gangyal, Roop Nagar, Vijaypur and Bishnah. We need 24 more hours to control the fire completely,” he added.

“The saw mill was running in violation of laws and there was no fire equipment installed in it. There were no source of water also,” he said.
