First batch of Rajouri medical college likely to start this year

The district administration is making every effort to start the first batch of Government Medical College, Rajouri, this year.

As the new building of the medical college is under construction, the district administration has decided to start the classes at Associated Hospital i.e. District Hospital, Rajouri.

For the smooth conduct of the first batch, all makeshift arrangements, including classrooms, laboratories and the administrative block, have been made at Associated Hospital, said Dr Suresh Gupta, medical superintendent, Associated Hospital, Government Medical College (GMC), Rajouri.

The government has appointed Dr Zahid H Gilani as the principal of the medical college, while the appointment of the faculty, doctors and the paramedical staff is under process. Many posts have already been filled.

Gupta said a team of the Medical Council of India (MCI) had visited District Hospital, Rajouri, to inspect the makeshift infrastructure. He said a team of the Medical Council of India (MCI)was expected to visit in March.

“If everything is found as per the guidelines of the MCI during its second visit, the first batch of the Rajouri GMC will commence from June-July this year,” said Gupta. He said every effort was being made to rectify the gaps found by the MCI team during its visit in December last year.

The procurement of machinery, equipment, furniture and linen is under process. The residential accommodation for the faculty and students has already been identified, he said.

Meanwhile, Director, Coordination, New Medical Colleges, Yash Paul Sharma, Rajouri Deputy Commissioner MA Asad and Principal Secretary Atul Dulloo recently reviewed arrangements being made for the first batch of the GMC.
