The Indian Nursing Council has announced that from the academic session 2018-19, all types of applications from colleges related to starting new nursing programmes, enhancement of seats, etc, will be accepted by it only through the online mode.
Sources said with the majority of paramedical institutes in J&K lacking in infrastructural facilities, the new initiative of the council, which is a statutory body under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, would help in keeping a check on the overall functioning of paramedical colleges ranging from admission to providing facilities to students.
“Adequate infrastructural facilities like sufficient classrooms, laboratories and spacious buildings are not available in paramedical institutes of J&K and there is no concept of digitisation. There are around 70 paramedical institutes in the state which include 40 in Jammu region while the remaining are in Kashmir division,” an official said.
He said as many as 25 proposals for the establishment of private paramedical colleges were received by the J&K Paramedical Council but no permission was granted to even a single proposal due to lack of infrastructure. Dr AS Bhatia, Registrar, J&K State Paramedical Council, told The Tribune, “Yes, the Indian Nursing Council has now made it mandatory for all paramedical institutes to start functioning through online mode from the new academic session 2018-19. The new initiative will definitely help in the smooth functioning of paramedical institutes as all the necessary information would be uploaded by the colleges on the website of the Indian Nursing Council.”
