The Government College for Women (GWC), Parade, on Wednesday won the one-act play competition during the ‘Display Your Talent’ event being conducted by the University of Jammu.
Eleven teams from different colleges of the region participated in the competition, which is an annual affair conducted by the department of students’ welfare, University of Jammu, at Brigadier Rajinder Singh auditorium.
‘Aik Natak Aisa Bhi’ presented by the GCW, Parade, was based on tragic incidents that are faced by a playwright while producing a play in which characters are least bothered about ethicality and discipline. Besides, how money plays an important role in killing the writer’s instinct was beautifully highlighted in the play.
The runner-up trophy was lifted by the Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, for their play ‘Janta Pagal Ho Gayi Hai’, while Government Degree College, Kathua, got the third prize for play ‘Kathputli’.
Of the six top actors chosen in various categories, four women clinched the top positions in individual performances.
Pallavi Baral and Ruhi Sharma of GCW, Gandhi Nagar, clinched the best female actor award, while Akhilesh Khajuria of Government Degree College, Kathua, and Mandeep Singh of The Business School, Jammu University, got the second best actor award. Nirupma Jamwal and Shivata Sapru, both from GCW, Parade, got the third best actor award.
Dean, department of students’ welfare, University of Jammu, Maheswati Sharma said the participating groups had presented their best performances in the competition.
