As braid-chopping incidents are on the rise in the Valley, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today assured the people that her government was doing its best to solve the mystery and bring the culprits to book.
She was talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of a function in the Dal Lake area here today.
The Chief Minister said a high-level team comprising government and police officers had already been constituted to monitor the issue.
She said a team of doctors, including psychiatrists, had also been deputed to meet the victims and help in investigation.
“We have constituted a high-level team to monitor the issue and have also kept the reward (for information on the culprits). Besides, we have also designated a team of doctors to meet the victims. We are doing our best to reach to the root cause of the problem. (The effort is) that the culprits are exposed and the truth is explained to people,” she said.
The police on Sunday doubled the reward money to Rs 6 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the culprits involved in the braid-cutting incidents.
Director General of Police SP Vaid on Sunday said they had contacted police officials from states where such incidents had been reported. He termed the braid-chopping a mystery.
In J&K, braid-chopping was first reported in the Jammu region, where more than 100 cases have been registered but no arrests have been made so far.
In Kashmir, 48 cases have been reported so far, including alleged unsuccessful attempts.
