Katra, May 8
Himkoti Track will remain closed for pilgrims from May 10-14 for work on moving cabins of the upcoming Bhawan-Bhairon Ghati Passenger Ropeway from Adhkuwari to Bhawan, a spokesperson of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board said on Tuesday.
The pilgrimage will continue as usual via Adhkuwari-Sanjichhat-Bhawan and Sanjichhat-Bhaironji-Bhawan routes, the spokesperson said.
The ropeway, which is currently at an advanced stage of construction and will be put to trial soon, is a joint venture between a Swiss company, Garaventa AG, and Kolkata-based Damodar Ropeways Construction Co. (P) Ltd.
Equipment and cabins for the ropeway have been imported from Switzerland.
The ropeway has a carrying capacity of 800 people per hour, the spokesperson said.
Another upcoming ropeway project called ‘Material Ropeway’ between Siar Dabri and Bhawan will also be operationalised within the next few days, the spokesperson.
