The Jammu Development Authority (JDA) is going to revive its decades-old club, which was being used as a banquet hall till last year.
The building of the club was constructed in 1998 at the Roop Nagar Housing Colony after which the JDA had started a membership drive for it. Many residents had applied for the membership, but it was later converted into a banquet hall and then a contract of the building was given to a private caterer.
However, in 2015, the JDA decided to make the club functional for the purpose it was constructed and did not renew the contract of the caterer. The JDA has already started the renovation of the building to make it a prestigious club of the city.
“The renovation of the club is going on in full swing and 60 per cent of the work has already been completed. We expect the clubto be ready by September this year,” said Rajesh Shavan, JDA vice-chairman.
“We are expanding the area so that it can be used as a community hall-cum-club,” he added. Shavan said the JDA was committed to making the club fully functional by the end of this year.
Moreover, the club will have its own management committee, which will be elected by the members (locals). It will also have a banquet hall for holding functions.
“We are also planning to open the registration of membership of the club by next month, so that the amount collected as membership fee can also be utilised for acquiring better facilities in the club,” Shavan added.
He assured that the club would be among the reputed clubs of the city and the memberships would be done on the basis of the reputation and character of a person.
