In a major achievement, the University of Kashmir (KU) and University of Jammu (JU) have significantly improved their ranking at the national level and again made it to the list of the top 100 universities of the country.
Kashmir University, however, witnessed a big jump in its all-India ranking and figured among the top 50 universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)-2018. Last year, it was ranked 73rd in the NIRF results while it stands at 47 this year.
The NIRF results of the ranking were released by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar in New Delhi on Tuesday.
Similarly, Jammu University has improved its ranking and it stood at the 51st rank at the national level. In 2017, the JU had secured the 63rd rank — a step above as compared to corresponding year 2016.
As many as 4,500 institutes had submitted their details with the NIRF this year. At the event unveiling the rankings for 2018, Javadekar said it would be mandatory for public institutes to participate in the ranking framework from next year.
The ranking is done on parameters that broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources” (TLR), “Research and Professional Practices and Collaborative Performance” (RPC), “Graduation Outcomes” (GO), “Outreach and Inclusivity” (OI), and “Perception”.
As per the results on the NIRF website, Kashmir University has surpassed Jammu University, which was recently accorded the autonomous status by the MHRD.
The results revealed that the KU score was 36.32 in 2017, which has gone up to 43.96 this year. The KU has scored 62.39 (of 100) in TLR, 20.08 in RPC, 77.61 in GO and 36.99 in OI. The point score of the JU is 43.19 this year against 37.23 in 2017. The JU’s parameter-wise figures include 65.22 in TLR, 18.20 in RPC, 69.46 in GO, 39.44 in OI and 1.22 Perception.
