Kathua, May 16
The members of the executive body and advisory board of Kathua Vikas Manch (KVM) today expressed anguish and concern over the delay in start of construction work for new Government Medical College (GMC), Kathua.
They said the medical college was sanctioned along with four others for the state about three years ago.
Manch president Ram Murti Sharma chaired a meeting of KVM to discuss the issue. The members demanded a thorough probe as to how Kathua, which fulfilled all the requisite formalities and parameters, including the land, had been dropped out from the list of medical colleges approved by the state and Central governments. The then state health minister had given instructions for renovating old building of the Kathua District Hospital for starting medical classes.
They opined that the existing campus of District Hospital was an ideal option for the establishment of the college.
