The J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) has established 1,677 micro industrial units under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) during this financial year.
This was informed at a meeting to review the performance of the board on Thursday. It was chairedby KVIB vice-chairperson Hina Shafi Bhat.
Appreciating the work of the board, Bhat underscored the need for reaching out to the people of remote and far-flung areas of the state with various employment schemes. She exhorted upon the officials to organise awareness camps for the common masses, especially the youth, in a bid to extend financial help for their sustainable living.
“Far-flung areas of the state must be made a priority for organising awareness camps, seminars and workshops, so that the residents can avail benefits of these schemes,” Bhat said.
She further stressed upon the need for a constructive role of the board in the development of khadi institutions in the state. Earlier highlighting the achievements, KVIB CEO-cum-secretary Rashid Ahmed Qadri said the under PMEGP, the board had surpassed the target of 1,002 micro industrial units by establishing 2,024 micro industrial units in 2017-18.
During the current fiscal (2018-19), the board has established 677 micro industrial units under the PMEGP so far, involving margin money outlay of Rs 3,211.48 lakh, thereby envisaging employment for around 10,210 people.
The secretary said the board had submitted 11 cluster project proposals to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, of which 10 with financial assistance of Rs 24.93 crore stand approved.
