Sumanta Sarathi Sharma, a senior faculty at the School of Philosophy and Culture, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, delivered a lecture on mind and ethics at IIT-Jammu. The topic of his presentation was ‘On Ethics and Mind: A Philosophical Enquiry’. He deliberated upon various ethical theories, case studies, situation reaction scenarios and their findings. An explanation of disciplined mind, respectful mind and an ethical mind was first given and then their differences were elaborated. The workshop was coordinated by S Ray (IIT-Jammu) and the session was chaired by Bhumika R.
Annual day celebrated
Humanity Public School celebrated its 39th annual day-cum-prize distribution function based on the theme ‘happiness’. A galaxy of dignitaries, including prominent personalities of Jammu along with the principals from different schools of Jammu province, was present on the occasion. Ravinder Raina, president, Bharatiya Janata Party, J&K, was the chief guest while Thakur Gulchain Singh Charak, former minister, presided over the function. Principal Gaurav Charak presented the annual report and gave a brief description about the students, their achievements and future plans.
Private schools allege harassment
The Jammu Private Schools and ETT Institutes’ Association (Progressive) has alleged that private schools were facing the apathy of the government and harassment by the traffic police. The association alleged that schools were facing hurdles to get extension in affiliation with the J&K State Board of School Education. It has appealed to Lieutenant-Governor GC Murmu to consider the genuine problems of private schools while assessing the ground realities.
ABVP seeks justice for rape victim
The ABVP unit of the University of Jammu organised ‘My hand with Disha campaign’. The campaign was organised for demanding death sentence for rapists and drawing attention of the government towards framing strict laws to deal with heinous crimes against women. The campaign was led by Palak Sambyal and Manisha Khanna of the Law Department. It was coordinated by Dyutima Kesar, secretary, ABVP, JU unit. More than 200 students coloured their hands and made a mark of their support on the wall for demanding justice for the Hyderabad rape victim.
