Amid unprovoked shelling from across the border, Director General of Police (DGP) SP Vaid on Sunday suggested Pakistan to observe Ramzan peacefully as India was doing.
While talking to the media at a function organised by the Police Wives’ Welfare Association, Vaid said the Central government’s decision to declare a unilateral ceasefire during Ramzan would have a positive effect and the upcoming Amarnath yatra would also pass off peacefully.
“I hope the decision of the Central government will have a positive effect on everyone, including security forces,” the DGP said.
“The initiative has been announced in the holy month of Ramzan. The Amarnath yatra is also equally auspicious, I hope it will pass off peacefully,” he added.
“I think most important is what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday, ‘let youth join their families and build strong J&K and strong India’,” Vaid said. Notably, after the announcement of unilateral ceasefire, Pakistan has intensified shelling along the International Border. On the first Friday of the holy month, five persons, including four civilians and one BSF man, lost their lives in shelling.
