Lt-Gen Paramjit Singh Sangha, General Officer Commanding White Knight Corps, accompanied by the General Officer Commanding, Counter Insurgency Force, Romeo, visited Hil Kaka village of Poonch and paid homage to martyrs of operation “Sarp-Vinash” who played sterling role in bringing normalcy to the region.

“It takes seven to eight hours of trek to reach this remote village situated on the southern side of Pir Panjal Range from the nearest road-head. The Hil Kaka area was infested with terrorists way back in early 2000 and in an unique operation, the locals fought alongside the Army to flush out terrorists from this region and bring normalcy in 2003. Incidentally, The General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps, had participated in the counter insurgency operations as a young company commander in these areas,” an official spokesperson said.

During his visit various other activities were also conducted which included a medical, dental and veterinary camp and distribution of solar lights to electrify village and distribution of sewing machines to empower women.

In his last visit in November 2018, the villagers had shared some of their grievances for which the Army had approached the civil administration and the Adviser to the Governor of J&K and asked them to take a considerate look into the problems being faced by the locals.

As a result of the continued follow up actions, most of the problems of the locals have been addressed to a great extent. As many as 12 BPL students from Hil Kaka have been admitted to Army Goodwill School, Potha, and they were provided free education, uniform, books and stationary.

The mobile connectivity will soon see the light of day with the telecom service providers agreeing to set up mobile communication towers. Dumping of stores for establishing mobile communication tower has already commenced and the land acquisition process from owners of the land is underway.

Lt-Gen Paramjit Singh Sangha expressed his gratitude to the locals for their contribution in bringing peace in the region.
