Meghnad Desai to deliver Mufti Sayeed lecture

To commemorate death anniversary of former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the PDP-BJP government will organise Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Memorial Lecture in Jammu on January 8.

The lecture will be delivered by eminent economist Lord Meghnad Desai. The government has also instituted an annual award, “Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Award for Probity in Public Life” to be conferred on a political personality from the country on the same day. “The idea has been conceived by Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu, who is also coordinating the programme to remember the legacy of Sayeed,” said an official in the state administration. Sayeed founded the Peoples Democratic Party in 1999. — TNS
