Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president and party candidate for the Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency Ghulam Ahmad Mir on Sunday reminded the people of the 2016 unrest, asking them to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“In the 2016 unrest during the PDP-BJP rule, thousands of people were wounded by pellets. They were not even allowed to reach hospitals. The PDP is responsible for that. You need to understand that the upcoming elections are an opportunity to respond to the betrayal and backstabbing of the PDP by ensuring its defeat,” Mir said during an election rally at Achabal in south Kashmir.
Mir, who is pitted against former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, blamed the PDP leadership for “compromising on people’s trust”.
“The PDP aligned with the BJP for the sake of power. So, there was resentment and anger among the people on a large scale. As a result, people of the Kashmir valley have lost trust in the democratic process,” he added.
He addressed another rally at Kokernag in Anantnag district and was accompanied by senior party leaders Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Gulzar Ahmad Wani and Bashir Ahmad Magrey.
