Chairman of the moderate faction of the Hurriyat Conference and the Awami Action Committee Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s aunt has passed away in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad.
In a statement, the Awami Action Committee (AAC) today said the daughter of late Moulvi Noor-u-din Shah (RA) and aunt of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq passed away in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Sunday. “The deceased was the wife of late Muhammad Afzal Shawl,” the AAC said, adding that Noor-u-Din Shah, Mirwaiz’s uncle, was a senior leader of the Muslim Conference and served a prison sentence at the time of Partition in 1947 for his political ideology.
“He was straightaway deported by the authorities in J&K, where he was in a jail, to Pakistani Kashmir along with his wife and his young children after being declared an enemy agent by the state government,” it said.
The party said “it is unfortunate” that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq could not visit his family and share their grief in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan as his passport had been impounded.
Similarly, when Mirwaiz's father Moulvi Farooq was killed, his grieving sister, uncles and close relatives in Pakistan were barred by the Central government from coming to Kashmir to console the family, the statement further added.
It said the AAC members convened a condolence meeting and expressed grief and sorrow at the death of Mirwaiz’s aunt.
