Nagar Kirtan to be taken out in city on Nov 9

A grand ‘nagar kirtan’ (religious procession) will be organised in Jammu city on November 9 in connection with the 550th Parkash Purb (birth anniversary) of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism.

Talking to mediapersons here, TS Wazir, chairman, State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board (SGPC) said the Nagar Kirtan would be organised by the District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DGPC), Jammu, along with different social and religious organisations under the patronage of Mahant Manjit Singh, Mukhi, Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch and Sant Tejwant Singh, Mukhi, Dera Sant Pura Danna, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu.

“The nagar kirtan will start from Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev, Chand Nagar, Jammu, on November 9 at 10 am and will culminate at Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu, at 5 pm. The Nagar Kirtan will march through Swami Vivekanand Chowk, Gumat Crossing, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Asia Hotel, Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar, District Hospital Gandhi Nagar Road, Gole Market, Shiva Chowk, Khalsa Chowk and culminate at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar, Jammu,” Wazir said.

Wazir appealed to the Sikh devotees to participate enthusiastically and wholeheartedly in the nagar kirtan and Guru purb. He also requested the educational institutions to observe a holiday on the day so that students, parents and school transport vehicles should not face any problem due to traffic congestion.

Earlier, a meeting of the DGPC, Jammu, along with local Gurdwara Parbandhak Committees and prominent Sikh leaders and personalities was held to seek cooperation from different sections of the society for smooth procession of the nagar kirtan and for gur purb celebrations.

Schedule of event

The nagar kirtan will start from Gurdwara Guru Nanak Dev, Chand Nagar, Jammu, on November 9 at 10 am and will culminate at Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu, at 5 pm. 

The Nagar Kirtan will march through Swami Vivekanand Chowk, Gumat Crossing, Dogra Chowk, Bikram Chowk, Asia Hotel, Green Belt Park Gandhi Nagar, District Hospital Gandhi Nagar Road, Gole Market, Shiva Chowk, Khalsa Chowk and culminate at Gurdwara Sri Singh Sabha, Nanak Nagar, Jammu.
