Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu (JU), on Wednesday inaugurated “Navagraha Vatika — a garden of nine planets” created by the Department of Sanskrit, JU. The garden has been created by putting together the plants, which have the force of nine planets. Prof Dhar performed puja, hawan for navagraha. Earlier, Prof Ram Bahadur Shukla, Head, Department of Sanskrit, said Navagrah Vatika was going to be the important source of energy.

School felicitates KAS rank holder

Border Security Force (BSF) School, Jammu, on Wednesday felicitated Roohi Khajuria, 2009 batch pass out, for qualifying Kashmir Administrative Service (KAS) exam in a special assembly held on the school premises. Khajuria passed out of the school in 2008-09. She did honours in botany from Miranda House, Delhi University. Thereafter, she joined the Food Corporation of India as technical assistant in 2016. She secured 47th rank in the KAS exams, 2016. Dr SK Shukla, Principal, BSF School, Jammu, complimented Khajuria on her achievement.

Coaching classes by Army

As part of Skill Indian Initiative, a 30-day coaching classes are being organised by the Army for Sainik School, Military School and Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) aspirants. The classes that started on August 27 will conclude on September 24 at Yoga Centre, Palma, in Rajouri district. The aim of coaching classes is to bring in the latest methods of imparting education to the students of rural areas of Palma. Teachers and parents appreciated the efforts put in by the Army and expressed gratitude for providing such a platform at the door-steps of students living in the remote areas of the hilly district.

DPS students bring laurels

Students of Delhi Public School (DPS), Jammu, brought laurels to the school by winning first position in inter-school rope skipping competition organised by the District Youth Services and Sports at Kotli Bhawan on August 23. The students were also selected for a state-level competition to be held later. The team comprised of Shivanshi Sharma, Dhruv Bhasin and Divyansh Manhas. Principal, DPS, Jammu, Ruchi Chabra congratulated the winners and coach, Suresh Kumar. Headmistress, Meenu Gupta also applauded them.

Drawing contest on save environment

The J&K Rural Sports Club, NGO, on Wednesday organised a drawing competition on the theme “save environment” at Shiksha Niketan School, Jeevan Nagar. All the students of Class X participated in this competition which was held to improve their drawing skills. The first position was jointly bagged by Akash and Sneha Coudhary, while Harshdeep Singh secured the second position.

ABVP stages protest

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), University of Jammu (JU) unit, on Wednesday staged a protest against the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Delhi union in connection with smearing ink on statue of Veer Savarkar. The ABVP unit raised slogans against the act of the NSUI.
