NC pays tributes to Begum Akbar Jahan

Srinagar: The National Conference (NC) on Tuesday paid tributes to Begum Akbar Jahan on her 18th death anniversary which will be observed on Wednesday. Party president Farooq Abdullah in a statement described her as “an epitome of selfless social service, conviction, piety and courage”. She was his mother and also a senior leader of the party. He said Begum Jahan was “not only a pillar of moral support to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah but also a compassionate mother who always demonstrated a commitment to lead in his absence against all odds”. NC vice-president Omar Abdullah highlighted the “tremendous work done” by her for the cause of women empowerment in the state. TNS
