Srinagar, April 13
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Saturday compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Germany’s Nazi Party leader Adolf Hitler and said both had promised to change the destiny of people.
“May God have mercy on him (Modi). Hitler was just like him. When he (Hitler) came, he also promised to change the destiny of people,” Farooq said at a rally in the city here.
Farooq, who is the NC candidate from the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, said Hitler had also promised development. The Srinagar seat will go to the polls in the second phase next week.
The former Chief Minister also demanded an investigation into the Pulwama fidayeen attack and said a car full of explosives was not intercepted despite prior intelligence about the attack.
At an election rally in Ganderbal district, Farooq urged New Delhi to work towards winning the hearts of the people of Kashmir.
“The day you will work to win the hearts of the Kashmiris, you will not commit those mistakes which you do today,” he said.
“You are threatening us that you will abrogate Articles 370 and 35A. They want to shake our existence. There are 70 per cent Muslims here and they want to slowly finish them,” he said.
Meanwhile, National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah addressed a rally in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday. He said the party’s candidate from south Kashmir, a retired judge, Hasnain Masoodi, was the best candidate to defend Article 370.
He later told reporters that his party would revoke the Public Safety Act and also withdraw cases against stone throwers.
