Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the 26/11 Mumbai attack mastermind and UN-designated terrorist, is not officially a terrorist in India.

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has made it clear that anyone involved in unlawful activities in the country couldn’t be declared a terrorist. “Hafiz Saeed is a wanted accused in the Mumbai terror attack case being investigated by the NIA,” it said. This has been revealed by the MHA while replying to an application filed under the RTI Act by Rohit Choudhary, belonging to the Korotana Kalan area of Ranbir Singh Pura, Jammu. In his application filed on December 7, 2017, Choudhary had asked whether Hafiz Saeed had been declared a terrorist by India. He received the reply a few days ago. MHA Deputy Secretary SK Chhikara said, “There is no provision for declaring an individual as a terrorist under the Indian legal system. However, action is taken against individuals if they are involved in terrorist acts.” — TNS
