Governor NN Vohra has called for continuing capacity building of teachers through trainings and workshops to sharpen their skills and teaching abilities keeping in view the fast-transforming academic scenario.
He was chairing a meeting at the civil secretariat to review the functioning of the school education department. The meeting was informed that the state had constituted a high-level inter-departmental committee headed by the Principal Secretary, Finance, to examine the issues in the school education department, including rationalisation of schools, teachers and staff as per the national norms, identification of surplus schools and posts, and the reforms needed to be introduced to improve the educational standards in the state.
The committee will also look into issues relating to Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan teachers, including their salaries, and will submit its report to the state by November10. The Governor directed the Principal Secretary, Finance, to give an interim report to the Chief Secretary on an urgent basis so that an appropriate decision could be taken regarding the payment of salaries to the SSA teachers.
In view of the staff shortage in the education department, Vohra asked the recruiting agencies to expedite the recruitment process of teaching and non-teaching posts and stressed the need for taking urgent measures for the confirmation of the promotions.
Vohra was further informed that 1,002 detachments had been ordered and all chief education officers had been asked to submit final reports in this regard by August 20.
