Jammu: An induction-cum-orientation programme was organised for new students of the five-year integrated BA LLB and LLB professional courses at Dogra Law College. Gulchain Singh Charak, chairman, Dogra Educational Trust, and Samar Dev Singh Charak, Trust secretary, were present on the occasion. In the welcome address, principal Prof VP Magotra emphasised on the unique position that law holds in society. Lecturer Parema Bakshi introduced the students with the rules and procedures of the college.

Punjabi Lekhak Sabha holds literary meet 

Jammu: The Punjabi Lekhak Sabha, Jammu, on Monday organised its fortnight literary meet in which a session of essays and poetry recitation was conducted. Nirmal Vinod, well-known multilingual poet and writer, presided over the meeting. Various themes and topics were discussed through essays and poems of various genres. A satirical essay by Pritam Singh Anjaan on false faiths, dogmas and malpractices was highly appreciated. Amar Singh Kuka, Piara Singh Dhanjal, Jang S Verman, Harjit Singh Uppal, Pritam Singh Anjaan, Kulwant Singh, Resham Kaur and Nirmal Vinod presented their items and views on various issues. Nirmal Vinod said the sabha was conducting its meets to uphold traditions of discussing various poetic works before they could be presented on stage. TNS

City hotel comes up with food festival

Jammu: Cygnett Park Asia has come up with ‘August Moon Food Festival’ at Yangtse Oriental and Chinese Restaurant. The ‘August Moon’ is a mid-autumn harvest festival celebrated by the ethnic Chinese and Vietnamese people but due to ancient China’s cultural influence it has spread to other parts of Southeast Asia. Naresh Dabral, executive chef of Cygnett Park Asia, said: “We are celebrating ‘August Moon’ through culinary journey of oriental cuisine that includes delicacies of China, Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia.” TNS
