The Pahalgam summer festival and a rafting championship at Sonmarg on the Kashmir-Ladakh axis will remain the key attractions for tourists in the coming months.
Reviewing preparations for the tourist season, Director, Tourism, Kashmir, Nisar Ahmad Wani said water sports would be organised on the Manasbal lake in Ganderbal district as part of their efforts to attract more visitors to the Valley in summer months.
“The summer festival at Pahalgam is likely to begin from June 20. It has also been decided to hold water sports on the Manasbal Lake and a rafting championship at Sonmarg,” said Nisar Wani.
He said they would involve the local youth in sports and other adventure activities.
He further said Botapathri at Gulmarg would be thrown open to visitors in the first week of May.
NIsar Wani directed officials to identify spots for the construction of bio-toilets and complete all under-construction projects in time without compromising with quality.
He asked assistant directors and destination heads to fix the rates of services such as shikara rides, pony rides, ATV rides, snow-scooter rides and local sightseeing.
