A selection of committee of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, has awarded 16 out of total 15 marks to two candidates in the viva voce conducted for admission to PhD programme in Urdu.
According to the results declared by the authorities on its website, four candidates were selected for the PhD programme for the year 2019. Of these, two were awarded 16 out of total 15 marks in the viva. The remaining two candidates were allotted 14 and three marks, respectively.
For the selection of candidates, the committee headed by the Dean Students Welfare, had apportioned 70 marks for the entrance test, 15 for the presentation and 15 for the viva voce. Interestingly, one candidate, who secured 62 marks in the written test, has been awarded only three marks in the viva voce. The candidates who got 46 and 43 marks, respectively, were given 16 marks each. Two candidates who got 61 marks and 58 marks, respectively, were also given only four marks each in the viva. They were placed in the waiting list.
Dean Students Welfare Prof G M Malik admitted that it was a mistake. “I own up the mistake as the head of the committee,” Prof Malik said, adding, “It is not a deliberate error. It will be rectified.”
Seeking to downplay the goof-up, Prof Malik said the marks secured by the candidates in the presentation and viva voce were combined in two cases, but the error was committed by those persons who were involved in bifurcating the marks.
