Rally marks World No Tobacco Day

Chief Medical Officer Dr Wajid Ali today flagged off a rally in which more than 200 students from Government Higher Secondary Schools for Boys and Girls and ANMT School, Doda, participated.

The students were holding banners, posters and placards depicting harmful effects of tobacco consumption. Painting competitions and awareness camps were also held in all the blocks as well as District Hospital.

School students went around the market to make people aware of the ill-effects of tobacco and urged them to make the district smoke and tobacco-free and healthy.

An awareness camp on the theme of “Tobacco — a threat to development” was also held at District Hospital where experts from the medical field threw light on importance of the day. The speakers highlighted the issue of smoking in society, its harmful effects and the threat tobacco industry poses to the development of a country, including the health and economic well-being of its people.

Dr Zia Shokat Mughal and Dr Rehana delivered lectures during morning assemblies in Government Higher Secondary Schools for Boys and Girls and spread the message of making every day a “World No Tobacco Day”. — OC
