Ram Navami celebrated with religious fervour

The festival of Navratras culminated on Sunday with the celebration of Ram Navami. Rituals such as “Kanya pujan” and immersing “khetri” (seedlings looking like long grass) in the Tawi were held on the occasion.

Locals celebrated Navratras, dedicated to nine incarnations of Goddess Durga, with fasting and worshipping.

All temples in the city were decked up with colourful lights. The famous Bawe Wala Mandir at Bahu Fort, Mahamaya Mata Mandir, Shree Ranvireshwar Mandir, Shree Raghunath Mandir and others, including Chichi Mata Mandir at Samba, witnessed heavy rush of devotees throughout the nine days of Navratras.

On Sunday, hundreds of vehicles were stuck for hours together on the main Tawi bridge since morning as people gathered there to immerse “khetri” in the river.

A large number of religious programmes were also organised across the city. Jagrans were held in different localities of the Jammu city during the nine days of the festival. Langars (community kitchen) were also organised by different NGOs and religious groups at different localities of the city.

Navratras that falls in the Chaitra month (March-April) began on March 18.
