Jammu, June 4
The Centre has enhanced compensation for the loss of milch animals in border shelling along the International Border and Line of Control from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000.
The Government of India had announced expenditure for relief camps and compensation for losses to houses, crops and livestock at the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) rates to the victims of cross-border firing in December last year.
“It was, however, observed that compensation for loss of milch animals, which was Rs. 30,000 per animal, was quite inadequate. Considering the problem of border residents, the government has raised the compensation amount to Rs 50,000,” said a statement issued by the Press Information Bureau on behalf of the Union Home Ministry.
These claims will be initially paid to the victims by the state government after evaluating the actual loss. The amount will then be reimbursed by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Security Related Expenditure (Relief & Rehabilitation) Scheme. Orders in this regard have been issued to the J&K Government on June 1.
