The resident doctors of SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, suspended their strike after getting assurances from the government that their grievances will be addressed soon.
SKIMS Medical College principal Dr Reyaz Untoo had sacked 10 resident doctors protesting for the removal of pay disparity with their counterparts in SKIMS, Soura.
The principal has also revoked the termination order of the protesting doctors.
“Following the intervention of the Doctors’ Association Kashmir and college faculty, successful negotiations were held with Dr Untoo, wherein he promised to redress the demands submitted by the residents,” said Dr Abid Ashraf, spokesperson of the protesting doctors.
“We have called off the strike with immediate effect and all resident doctors have resumed their duties,” the spokesperson added.
The principal has assured the protesting doctors that their salary would be increased along with the doctors of Government Medical College, Srinagar, who also called off the protest after an assurance from the government.
The protesting doctors were demanding monthly stipend at par with their counterparts in SKIMS, Soura. On May 17, the government had increased the monthly wages of the resident doctors of SKIMS, Soura, to put it in the range of Rs 60,000 to Rs 1 lakh while as their counterparts in Bemina are paid less than Rs 50,000.
