Students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Srinagar, will be able to participate in the placements conducted at the IITs at Delhi and Jammu as the institute has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the IIT, Jammu, which has the IIT, Delhi, as its mentor.
Earlier, students of the NIT suffered as the multi-national companies used to give it a go-by because of the tense situation in the Kashmir valley.
After the persistent efforts of the management and alumni, NIT Director Prof Rakesh Sehgal and his counterpart Prof SK Kaul on the behalf of Prof MS Gaur, Director IIT, Jammu, inked an MoU on Wednesday on the campus of the IIT, Delhi.
The two prestigious institutes have agreed to cooperate in academic areas of mutual interest, exchange information on teaching and learning materials, jointly organise seminars, conferences, workshops and engage in research and training programmes sponsored by funding agencies, which will not only provide more job opportunity to the students, but will also add to the knowledge and capability of NIT students.
The agreement also provides for inviting each other’s faculty, staff and students to participate in activities and jointly guide research scholars registered for their doctoral and post-graduate programmes in achieving their goals. In addition, the alumni have arranged with the IIT, Jammu, for using its infrastructure and facilities for interviews of NIT students.
NIT Srinagar Alumni Association president AA Mir and vice-president Deepak Bhasin said since October 2017, the past students of the college from around the globe had been visiting the campus and delivering talks on technical and soft skills. The idea is to expose the students beyond curriculum so as to enable them to develop new skills, boost their confidence and prepare them for employment.
To mentor the students planning to go abroad for further studies and job assignments, the alumni association plans to open its first overseas chapter in the US this year.
