Be it the payment of bills at the cash counter or to get information about billing, duplicate sim card or plan change, subscribers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), J&K Telecom Circle, in the city are having a harrowing time at the Customer Service Centre (CSC) in Bahu Plaza.
Despite separate counters for senior citizens and women for hassle-free bill payment, a single queue of subscribers, including women and senior citizens, can be seen as most of the time the officials at the counters concerned are not available. Further, the Bahu Plaza office is receiving a number of complaints regarding billing issues, especially excessive bills.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited officials are dealing with a heavy rush of subscribers who are not happy with the services they are receiving. “What is the purpose of establishing different counters when the BSNL authorities are least bothered about the hardships being faced by us due to a long queue at a single counter, both at Bahu Plaza and Gandhi Nagar office,” said Ramesh, a subscriber.
“Whenever we enquire about the absence of the official from a cash counter we are informed that he is not available or on leave,” he added.
“Last month, my phone connection suddenly got disconnected and when I approached the office to know about the reason I was informed that I have crossed the credit limit,” said Amit, another BSNL subscriber from the city. “The bill was much more than I used the services, which I told the officials, but in vain,” he claimed.
When contacted, Gautam Lal, General Manager, Telecom District Jammu, admitted that the customers had faced problems while making bill payments due to less number of cash counters.
“Yes, our subscribers have faced a lot of problems in the recent past while paying their bills, but now we have decided to increase the number of cash counters so that there is no rush,” Gautam Lal said.
When asked about frequent increase in the complaints of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited subscribers relating to excessive billing, Gautam Lal said, “It is another important issue. We are taking it very seriously and sort it out soon.”
