Employees of the BSNL claimed that the call for the nationwide strike was given in support of the 20-point charter of demands that aimed at strengthening the survival of the BSNL. But the first day of the stir adversely affected the BSNL subscribers in Jammu.

Mohit Gupta, sales executive, said, “Calls are not being made from BSNL mobile connections and if we call the BSNL mobile connection from other operators, it is being dropped most of the time.”

“It has become a routine for the BSNL subscribers. They have to face this difficulty most of the time. The Internet facility of the BSNL mobile is good for nothing,” he added.

Meanwhile, BSNL employee sat outside the main office of the BSNL at Bahu Plaza. Describing the stir as a “save BSNL - save nation” move, employees said the nigam urgently required financial assistance to expand and improve services. The other demands include giving up the proposal of merger of BSNL and MTNL, filling the posts of directors, refund of the spectrum charges to the tune of Rs 6,700 crore, free spectrum to BSNL and recruitment against vacant posts.

AK Misra, General Manager, BSNL, said, “Our office was observing a two-day nationwide strike. Customer may have faced some problem in the network. However we have not received any complaint regarding any network issue.”

“I will check with my staff if there is any network problem with the BSNL and will rectify the problem,” he added.
