Talent contest at JU
Painting, photography and collage-making competitions were held at the University of Jammu (JU) on the eighth day of the ongoing ‘RangTrang-Display Your Talent-2019’ on Sunday. In the painting competition, Saurav Kumar and Vikas Singh stood first and second, respectively, while the third spot was secured by Tamanna Bhagat. In photography, Dhruv Pant, Abhinav Behl and Abhinandan Angotra secured the first three positions. In collage-making, Aziz Verma, Urvi Kotwal and Srishti Koul clinched top three spots, respectively.
Convention for teachers
The J&K United School Teachers’ Association (USTA) held a daylong convention on Sunday. USTA president Hari Singh stressed upon the government to take concrete steps to provide teaching staff and other required infrastructure in rural schools. The association also expressed concern over the temporary promotions of masters to lecturers by the alleged violation of the existing rules. It condemned the authorities for not paying regular salary to teachers working under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.
Tug-of-War competition
To promote PM’s Fit India Movement, a tug-of-war contest was organised for fitness and mental strength of students at Government Higher Secondary School, Bahu Fort. Rajeev Charak, BJP state vice-president, was the chief guest. Total seven teams participated in the competition, wherein Gorkha Nagar emerged victorious. Kalika Colony team finished runner-up in the senior category. In the junior category, Gorkha Nagar team again emerged winner while Bahu Fort had stood second.
Zumba workshop at NIFD
A daylong zumba workshop was organised by BASTE Space of Performing Arts at the National Institute of Fashion Design (NIFD), Jammu. The session was conducted by Pavit Kour, director, BASTE. It was organised for NIFD freshers, wherein they were informed about the healthy way of leading their lives. After an intense session, zumba instructor Pavit said: “Fitness should be an integral part of your everyday life because if you are physically fit, you'll be able to accomplish a lot more than what you can imagine.”
Awareness programme
A one-day awareness-cum-demonstration programme was held at the Jamwal Groups of Education (IECS Polytechnic College), Purkhoo, on Sunday. It was organised by Civil Defence, Jammu, under the supervision of Shashi Thakur, DSP, Deputy Controller Civil Defence, Jammu. Over 300 students were made aware of first-aid, chocking and emergency methods of rescue by the instructors.
Students’ body holds meet
The All-India Students’ Federation, J&K, on Sunday called a meeting over the admission issue of students who recently passed their Class XII JKBOSE exams. The council unanimously requested Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, to issue notification to give regular admission to these students in the affiliated colleges.
