Tearful adieu to DSP Aman Thakur

From an unknown but brilliant boy of Gagla village of Doda district to earning the respect of being a valiant and fearless Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Aman Kumar Thakur’s sacrifice touched hundreds of people in the area who bid him a tearful adieu here today.

It was his charisma and connect with people of this area which brought many to his doorstep at Sangrampur in the Marh area on the outskirts of Jammu, and accompanied him on his last journey.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life and policemen from all ranks wanted to be part of his funeral procession to pay their last respects to the departed soul. All were in tears when Thakur’s mortal remains reached his home after the wreath-laying ceremony at the district police lines and the family was inconsolable.

The cries of Sarla Devi, the brave officer’s wife, reverberated in the air and all moist eyes around shared her grief. His son Arya Thakur and parents were also in deep shock.

Sentiments were running high among the mourners who raised anti-Pakistan slogans during the funeral procession and praised the sacrifice of Aman Thakur.

The DySP was cremated with full police honours.

Governor Satya Pal Malik paid floral tributes to Aman Thakur. MoS in PMO, Jitendra Singh, DGP Dilbag Singh, ADGP (Security) Muneer Khan, leaders from various political parties and members of civil society thronged the police lines to pay their respect to him.

Talking to media, the DGP said the security forces would soon eliminate the menace of terrorism in the state. Paying homage to Aman Thakur, the DGP said his sacrifice would not go in vain.
