To control incidents of copying, for the first time, as many as 15 examination centres have been set up at Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) in Jammu division by Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Jammu regional centre, in the ongoing term-end examination of June 2017.

Earlier, the examination centres were confined to government colleges/schools/private institutes only and at times, there were reports of incidents of copying at some of the private centres which was a matter of concern. The decision to set up exam centres at Kendriya Vidyalayas has been taken to lessen incidents of cheating.

More than 35,000 students are appearing in the examination at 45 centres in Jammu division for different masters/bachelors/certificate and diploma programmes of the university.

Apart from 15 centres in Kendriya Vidyalayas, 18 examination centres have been set up in government degree colleges/private colleges, nine centres have been set up in private institutes and three centres in jails for jail inmates. A total of 220 examination centres for the ongoing examination have been established in Kendriya Vidyalayas across the country.

“The decision to establish examination centres in Kendriya Vidyalayas was taken after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the vidyalayas and the IGNOU head office in New Delhi,” an official said.

“It is the responsibility of IGNOU, Jammu centre, to set up maximum examination centres in government institutes but due to poor response from some of the government colleges, we had no option but to set up examination centres in private institutes,” an IGNOU official said.

Dr Joginder Kumar Yadav, Regional Director, IGNOU, Jammu centre, told The Tribune, “Yes, the Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designed as examination centres for the first time. We are trying our level best to ensure the conduct of examination in a transparent manner.”

Pertinently, the term-end examinations of IGNOU, which commenced on June 1, will conclude on June 21. For the first time, the university will complete the examination process in 18 days as Kendriya Vidyalayas have been designated as examination centres. Overall, IGNOU has established 1,034 examination centres, including 100 centres in jails for jail inmates in India besides 23 overseas centres.
