Srinagar, June 4
The Railways has decided to suspend train services from Banihal to Baramulla on Wednesday and Thursday during the Eid festivities, being celebrated on June 5.
“Keeping in view last year’s incidents during Eid-ul-Fitr, the train operations shall be suspended on June 5 and 6,” read an order issued by Northern Railways chief engineer.
Senior Railways officials said the move was taken keeping in view the past experience when the railway properties were damaged during the Eid festivities due to the heavy rush of passengers.
“Earlier, we used to introduce additional trains during Eid to cater to passenger rush, but last year’s experience has forced us to suspend trains during the festival,” said a Railways official. — TNS
