After hours of hectic efforts by different rescue teams, the police retrieved the body of a minor boy who had drowned in the Drungli nullah in Poonch district on Thursday.
Nazakat Hussain (13), a resident of district’s Nangli village, had gone for bath in the Drungli nullah when the incident took place.
Sachinder Pal Singh, Station House Officer, Poonch, said, “We received information from a local sarpanch about drowning of a minor in Drungli nullah. Our teams reached the spot and recovered some belongings of the minor near the nullah.”
“The rescue teams and locals worked together for several hours. The body was recovered and handed over to family for last rites,” said the officer.
In a similar incident, the police have recovered the body of five-year-old Yasir Nazir from a river in the Batalkote area of Poonch after five days. He slipped into the river at Loran on July 13 when he, along with his grandmother, was returning from a nearby forest area. Soon after the incident, locals and the police launched a rescue operation to retrieve the body.
