Militants, believed to be two or three in number, today opened fire and lobbed a grenade at Air Force Water Pump House outside the Air Force station at Awantipora around 5.30 today.

The militants, however, managed to escape after the attack.

Defence sources said the fire was effectively retaliated by the alert sentries.

They said their was no loss of life and a search was underway for the militants.

“There has been a firing incident at Malangpora near the Awantipora Air Force station,” they said.

The details of the incident are being ascertained and the security forces have cordoned off the area to track down the militants, they said.
