Four trained postgraduate or graduate teachers have managed their posting at a primary school in Chhatta under the Sunderbani education zone which has only seven students -- three in Class V, two in Class II and two in Class I.
“No student has been enrolled in Classes III and IV during the current session. When Class V students pass out next year, only four students are likely to be in the school,” said a senior Education Department officer.
This happened reportedly in connivance with the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), said sources. The Principal of the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), who recently paid a surprise visit to the school, had sought an explanation from the ZEO.
The sources added that most of the time, only four students remained present in this school. It had come to light that since May 5, attendance of students was not marked on the school register. Mid-day meal was not served to the students after May 22 even though ration was available in the school.
“On a report of the DIET Principal, re-verification has been initiated. The Principal of the higher secondary school in Bajabain, who is the cluster head, has been directed to submit a factual report,” said Altaf Hussain, Chief Education Officer.
He added that action under rules and regulations would be taken against those found involved and the school merged into the nearest middle or high school.
