Srinagar, May 4
When the window panes and a car parked outside his home were damaged this week, Nisar Bakshi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the state, was furious.
It was for the eighth time since 2008 that Bakshi’s house was damaged. “Vandalism by security forces,” he wrote on Facebook in a rare criticism by a policeman against his own men.
Bakshi said the properties on KP Road in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, where his house is located, were damaged on Wednesday when security forces “went berserk” following an incident of stone-throwing.
“This is for the eighth time since 2008 that my residential house has been damaged in such a way,” he said, sharing a series of pictures as an evidence of the damage.
The pictures show broken window panes of a house and the rear windscreen of a car which appears to have been smashed with a rod.
A neighbour of Bakshi at KP Road said the incident happened on Wednesday evening following stone-throwing at the Khanbal roundabout. “They (Security men) went berserk. Whatever came in front of them, they damaged it,” he said.
Police and civil administration officials refused to talk about the issue.
