A week after joining militancy, Mir Tufail returned to his home in Srinagar, the police said.
Eighteen-year-old Tufail, a resident of Parimpora on the outskirts of Srinagar, had gone missing and his picture had surfaced on social media holding a rifle.
“Tufail is with his family at his home,” DIG, central Kashmir range, Ghulam Hassan Bhat told mediapersons at a press conference in Srinagar. He, however, didn’t explain as to what led to his return.
Militant held in Kulgam
The police claimed to have arrested a militant in south Kashmir’s Kulgam today.
The police apprehended him from the Qazigund area of the district as he was out to carry out an attack on security forces. The militant has been identified as Shoaib Mohammad Bhat of Charsoo village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The police believe that Bhat was a freshly-recruited militant or a part of an overground module.
He said the police had specific inputs regarding his movement in the area and a naka was laid by the Army and the police to nab him.
“He tried to flee, but our men were alert and they nabbed him,” the police officers said. The police have recovered a pistol and eight rounds from his possession.
A case under Section 7 and 25 of the Arms Act has been registered in this regard.
He is being questioned and the police are expecting further arrests following his interrogation.
